Community Presbyterian Church of La Mirada

……a beautiful place to celebrate your wedding!

YOUR WEDDING IN OUR CHURCH

Community Presbyterian Church of La Mirada was built to the glory of God and is a witness to our faith in Jesus Christ.  It is maintained by our members and friends, but exists to serve this community.  Its use, therefore, is not restricted to members.  Wedding services are performed in the context of worship.  It is expected that the content of the service be consistent with Christian theology and practice.  Our wedding hostess is prepared to guide you in these matters.  All who desire a church setting, a spiritual foundation for their marriage, and who will use this facility in reverence for God, are most welcome to use our church under the direction of our staff.

GUIDELINES

WEDDING DATE

All weddings at Community Presbyterian Church are initially approved and scheduled through our Pastor.  You will be given a “Request for a Wedding Date” form which you must fill out and return to the church office before a date can be considered.  Once your date has been cleared on our church master calendar and approved by the Pastor, you will call our wedding hostess who will discuss arrangements with you.  Normally, at least two counseling sessions with the Pastor are required following the initial interview.  It is possible to have the Pastor of your choice officiate at your service, but this, too, must have previous approval.

It is not the intention of the church to profit from special services in our sanctuary; however, a service charge is necessary for the maintenance of our facility and the services of our staff.

CHURCH ACCOMMODATIONS

Our church will seat up to 300 people comfortably.  There are 12 pews on each side of the center aisle and two outside aisles.  The wedding hostess will assist with all arrangements and decorations according to wedding policy guidelines.

A lovely bride’s room is available for the women in the wedding party.  It is strongly suggested that for formal weddings, all men and women participating in the service dress at the church.  Men may dress in our choir room.

A kneeling bench, two 7-branch candelabras, and stands for flowers are available for your use, as well as 5 pairs of pew end candelabras for the center aisle.  We can provide a Unity Candle stand if desired.  Aisle runners are not recommended and are not provided.  No church equipment is to be taken off the premises.

Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed on the church premises, including the parking lot.  Smoking is not permitted in any buildings including the rest rooms.

Flower girls may carry baskets of flowers, but may not drop petals in the aisle. No rice, bird seed, or confetti  shall be thrown.  An additional charge will be made for clean-up if guests should overstep this rule.

WEDDING MUSIC

A wedding ceremony in the church is a service of worship before God and your music should be chosen with great care.  The music for your wedding must be discussed with the Organist at least one month in advance of wedding date.  Sacred music is most appropriate.  Music selections will be presented to the Organist 14 days prior to date of the wedding.  NO last minute substitutions will be made.

REHEARSAL

Any wedding other than the smallest requires a rehearsal.  All who are to participate in the wedding are expected to be present, AND ON TIME, so that each participant will know exactly what to do to help the wedding a beautiful experience.  The marriage license is to be given to the wedding hostess at the wedding.

WEDDING PICTURES

Pictures may be taken only by one assigned photographer in the sanctuary.  No photographs are to be taken during the wedding ceremony, except time exposures from the narthex doorway of the center aisle.

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY FLASH EQUIPMENT IN THE SANCTUARY PRIOR TO THE RECESSIONAL.

Video tape recording may be done from the back of the sanctuary, if it is cleared by the wedding hostess.  A remote controlled camera is permitted in the chancel area if it is located so as to not detract from the wedding ceremony.  No extra lighting may be used for video recording.  Flash equipment is acceptable only in the narthex, fellowship hall, or areas other than the sanctuary.

All of the above arrangements must be cleared through the wedding hostess

USHERS

Ushers should be dressed one hour prior to the hour set for the wedding ceremony.  This allows time for photographs. Ushers should be available in the Narthex 30 minutes prior to start of ceremony.  Ushers are requested to inform any guests with cameras that no cameras are to be used during the ceremony

FLOWERS

Details regarding location of flowers and decorations should be worked out with the wedding hostess to minimize difficulties and possible damage to the sanctuary.  The sanctuary is accessible during office hours for florists to visit.  This must be coordinated with the church office or wedding hostess.

Bows for the pews and streamers for center aisle may be used at the discretion of the bride and the florist.  Please do not expect the wedding hostess to assist in decorating the sanctuary, but you will need to schedule the time for this with her.

Candles are furnished for the candelabra.  In the event you desire to provide special candles for the Unity Candle stand, please discuss this with the wedding hostess.

One arrangement of flowers is customarily left for the worship service the following Sunday.  This also needs to be discussed with the wedding hostess.  These flowers can be picked up following worship, but the hostess will need to know the time.

RECEPTION ARRANGEMENTS

Our fellowship hall can accommodate NO MORE THAN 194 guests.

This is an absolute fire regulation.

Receptions must be catered by a licensed caterer and arrangements approved by the Buildings and Grounds Committee of the church.  Please ask for a “Use of Jenks Hall for a Catered Reception” form.  Fill it out and return it to the church office as soon as possible.

The church kitchen supplies are not available for use.

Smoking is not permitted in any of the buildings including the rest rooms.
